Katrin Zenz - Germany/Donaueschingen - Greece
Her activity in the field of the performance of contemporary music in Greece and her investigation for the use of the extended techniques of the flute has brought her in touch with many composers of the younger generation, which devoted pieces especially to her. She is also active in various formations of free improvisation and has a special interest in non-European musical traditions and the use of their wind instruments. She has been a founding member of the Vivier Trio, the Ensemble Actis, the Ensemble 2:13 and the Flute quartet 4xFour, a member of the Ensemble Köln, a regular member of the orchestra Camerata and the Ensemble Skalkottas in Athens, she also cooperates with the Orchestra of the State in Athens. As a soloist she appears at international festivals (Paris, Corfu, Stuttgart, Donaueschingen, Athens, Stratford, Darmstadt, Volos, Levkada) and teaches regularly at international flute festivals (Stratford-on-Avon, Volos). She is a founding member of the Greek cultural society FluteArt. She studied flute at the State Music Academy of Detmold (Dortmund) and electronic music in Basel. Since 2003 she teaches flute as a lecturer at the department of Music Science and Art at the University of Macedonia, in Thessaloniki. In discography she appears with music for flute by Anastassis Philippakopoulos (Edition Wandelweiser 2006) and chamber music for flute by Yannis Ioannidis (Greek Music Society 1998).
